Questions about estimating campaign returns
What is a good ROI for direct mail?
Start with the return your business needs to cover costs and meet its profit goals. Results depend on your audience, offer, margin and mailing cost. A published benchmark cannot predict what your campaign will earn.
How does this calculator work out ROI?
The calculator estimates revenue from responses, conversion rate and order value. It applies your gross margin, subtracts the mailing cost, then divides the remaining profit by that mailing cost. Include relevant campaign expenses in your cost assumptions.
Does this calculator predict my campaign results?
No. It models the inputs you enter. Change your response rate, conversion rate or costs to see how the estimate moves. Once your campaign runs, compare actual mailing spend and sales with your plan.
Which response rate should I enter?
Use a rate from a comparable campaign if you have one, with the same definition of a response. Otherwise, test a range of assumptions and run a small mailing to gather your own evidence.
